Yolngu Boy is a landmark in Australian filmmaking and an excellent educational resource for teachers of Australian History, Cultural Studies, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, Studies of Society and Environment, English, Personal Development and Media Studies.

Yolngu Boy is about the search for identity, making the journey from adolescence to adulthood and the implications of belonging to a larger social group, whether it be a culture, a family or a group of friends.

Yolngu Boy is the Australian Children's Television Foundation's first feature film. After nearly twenty years work in the field of television production, the ACTF has established a hallmark of excellence in production, and a commitment to providing its audience of young Australians with access to their own culture, their own stories, and their own dreams.

A Study Guide for Teachers has been developed and includes Learning Activities for Upper Secondary students.

Shot in Arnhem Land, the film features an all-indigenous lead cast including Nathan Daniels, Sean Mununggurr and John Sebastian Pilakui in the main roles of Milika, Botj and Lorrpu, respectively. Yolngu Boy is directed by Stephen Johnson from Darwin's Burrundi Pictures and produced by Patricia Edgar, Director of the Australian Children's Television Foundation, and Gordon Glenn. Galarrwuy Yunupingu and Mandawuy Yunupingu are Associate Producers. The film is written by Chris Anastassiades and produced with the support of the Yothu Yindi Foundation.
