Featuring some of the most spectacular scenery ever filmed in Australia, the visual beauty of YOLNGU BOY belies the logistical difficulties that Stephen Johnson and his crew faced throughout the seven weeks shoot which began on September 20, 1999. A Territorian, Johnson had envisaged many of the film's locations, and informed the screenplay's evolution, by making sure these locations were reflected in the final script. In turn, the Yothu Yindi Foundation were closely associated with the production from the outset. Galarrwuy Yunupingu and his brother Mandawuy Yunupingu, lead singer and songwriter of Yothu Yindi, are associate producers of YOLNGU BOY. Both were on-set throughout production to ensure that cultural issues were handled with equanimity, resulting in a total collaboration between the crew and the families of the region. |
